AUNT JEAN'S DIVINITY RECIPE

- 2 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. light karo
- 1 c. water
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. nuts
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 egg whites
Combine first 4 ingredients, bring to boil over medium heat.
Do NOT stir.
When mixture threads from spoon test in cold water for hard ball.
Do NOT scrape sides.
While cooking syrup, beat egg whites very stiff.
When syrup forms hard ball in cold water, pour slowly into beaten egg whites.
After all syrup is poured, add nuts and vanilla to mixture.
Beat with Cook's Spoon till it starts to set and loses some of its glossiness.
Beat till firm.
Put on wax paper.
Don't try this on a cloudy day. For some reason it doesn't work as well, according to your mom/grandma. I have tried this recipe and have used an electric mixer, but didn't add the nuts until it started setting, and it does come out good.
