HOMEMADE MAPLE SYRUP RECIPE
Contributed by Lin Anderson of Rhinestones Past

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tablespoon Maple Flavoring [ I prefer Schillings or McCormick]

Place sugar & water in 2 quart sauce pan.  Bring to a boil on medium heat, stirring with the Handi-Stir. Reduce heat to very low add flavoring & simmer for 8 minutes uncovered.  The syrup will thicken when it cools. Keep refrigerated & covered.

The recipe can be doubled you will need to use a larger pan. I sometimes use an old mason jar to store it in -  if you have trouble removing the lid, dip lid in hot water.

NOTE: My family won't eat store bought syrup after I started making this syrup. It won't be as thick as store syrup but very good and you can reheat before use. The reason for such a large pan is it can boil over very quickly, and if you have an electric stove you will want to remove it from the burner until your burner cools down. I keep my syrup for months and it does not go bad, and very reasonable to make considering the price of store bought.
